We moved here from the Washington, D.C. area to be closer to the places we loved to photograph. Landscapes and nature are favorites, but also interesting man-made elements. We enjoy camping, especially in areas off the beaten path. Our dog Koda Chrome tags along, too.

I"m a retired musician and serious amateur photographer. As a musician/photographer in the Boston Symphony I had wonderful opportunities to do travel photography and to photograph musicians and conductors for publicity use and exhibition. I have taught camera and darkroom courses at the Community College level in Texas and served as Artist in Residence (in photography) at the Southwest Craft Center, San Antonio. I have great interest in artificial lighting and have shot with strobes and now speed lights and modifiers. My main interest these days is portrait photography, especially with speed lights and modifiers.
My photography interests are people and lighting.
Enjoy people photography including portrait lighting. Have too much equipment so contact if you're looking...

I've always loved photography since I was at least 10 years old, and took Photography courses in College, getting a Fine Art Degree with a major in Photography. I spent my Junior Year in England. After I was married, I still took pictures of events that we were part of, and did a LOT of scrap-booking!! I started a portrait business in 1994 (ish) and have continued to love taking pics of most everything I can!!
I was NOT prepared for the change to digital, but I have been able to "ride the incessant waves of change" by at least clinging onto my surf board! However, my enthusiasm has not waned in taking pictures and it has helped weather the Covid storms by just getting out and enjoying creation and taking "creation portraits"!!

Following a PhD in physics I worked in basic research at Los Alamos National Laboratory and at the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, conducting accelerator-based experiments at several world-wide facilities. In addition to my research, I held management positions at both Los Alamos and in Japan. I have had a life-long interest in mindfulness practices and philosophy. After retiring from physics, I held board positions in non-profit organizations focusing on adult and high-school science education. My current photography interests include a variety of subjects (people, animals, architecture), with a recent focus on landscape and flower photography.

Short version: I'm an intermediate level photographer interesting macro and nature photography.
Long version:
My wife purchased a D3500 with 2 kit lenses for me in 2018. I thought it would be a closet hobby (do it a bit and it goes to that corner that we all have in a closet) but turns out I really enjoy it.
I would consider myself an intermediate amateur. Not looking to make any money or make a career out of this, I'm a scientist professionally, but I really love the whole process of photography. Reminds me a lot of my work, just on the visual range.
I started off doing shoot-anything photography, then ventured into landscapes, something I could do with the kit lenses. Then I start doing some bird photography, but quickly learned the limitations of a 70-300mm 5.6 lens. When I looked into the investment to go to the next level in bird/nature, I decided to try macro instead.
This led me to my first lens purchase, a nifty 50 with a reverse ring and some tubes. Since then, macro has been my focus with plans to later move into nature when I can save for some new glass.
After 2 years (and for a 40th birthday gift) my wife got me a D500 base and that is my current base. Other than the kit lenses and a nifty 50, I also got 40mm 2.8 micro and a flash for macro.
As for other hobbies, I enjoy woodworking, but not too far into it. My oldest hobby is gaming, played video games since I got my first NES in 1985. Just finished my move to the next gen systems with this past holiday, as I'm on an Xbox Series X now.
For family, I'm a proud father of my 2 year old son. He is also the subject for about all my non macro or nature photography.

I've been taking pictures forever but didn't get serious about editing or photoshopping until recently. Until the pandemic, I traveled a lot and didn't get very involved in the club, but since I've been home and many events have been via Zoom, I've participated more. The Portfolio project has been a great way to improve my skills and get to know people. I still consider myself a beginner with a lot to learn. I'm a retired teacher and librarian.
