From about 2008 - 2013 I was an avid bird photographer. Now that we have moved to New Mexico, I am getting started again. My bird photography was intermediate level. There are other types of photography that may also be of interest now that we are here, but I am looking for others interested in bird photography as well.

I just retired from the US Foreign Service after having worked overseas and traveled to more than 22 countries. I'm a fairly serious photographer, and have documented life in most of the countries in which I've worked. My passion is nature photography, but I also do a fair amount of street photography as well. I self-publish photo albums which I sell or give away...and have started to venture into photo-journalism highlighting issues of concern. I shoot Canon.
Retired USAID/US State Department. Worked in long term assignments in 12 countries, short-term in 20 plus. Mostly a nature photographer, but do urban work as well. Take pictures to document life, not so much to get a great shot. Do pro bono photography work of environmental and social causes.

I enjoy reading the e-mails as it is difficult for me to make meetings. I have learned much reading the information written by the experts in the club.
I enjoy traveling and reading. However, mostly, I want to improve my photography.
I consider myself a 'low to medium' intermediate. I would love to figure out how to get a site on the internet and, perhaps, sell some photos of my travels.

I fell in love with photography at an early age, when I got my first camera. I was 10 years old and took my first photography class in 4H (boy does that date me!) My entry for 4H made it to the State Fair and placed well, from there I was hooked! While in high school I was fortunate enough to be on the yearbook staff and had access to a camera and darkroom. What more could a girl ask for? I continued photography throughout the years but missed the artistic creativity and freedom that the darkroom offered. With the introduction of digital capture...it was like having a darkroom again. I recently closed my brick and mortar portrait studio as we hit the road in our RV. People and Landscapes are my favorite to photograph. I am looking forward to many years of travel capturing some fine art images.

Here's a little bit of my journey. I started doing B&W film photography in high school back when I lived in Connecticut around 1990 and enjoyed experimenting with astrophotography, landscapes and some portraits and candids. I used to shoot with my dad's Nikon 2020 and later a Nikon 8008. I really enjoyed it and had a small darkroom setup in my basement I then went on a bit of a hiatus from photography and got back into it when DSLRs were a little more interesting and affordable to me. I purchased my first DSLR around 2006 while visiting Oregon because they have no sales tax! It was a Nikon D80. I really enjoyed it so much and went a little crazy with nature and landscape photography, mainly because I travelled a lot for my work. I worked as an IT Technician in various capacities and still do! I've taken a few community college classes back in Connecticut for Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge. I also took a studio lighting class in CT and a drone cinematography class recently at CNM. I mainly use Lightroom to edit and mainly shoot in RAW. However, when I use my iphone, I use apps like Snapseed, Phonto and Enlight. I also have a DJI Mavic Pro drone and do some landscape photography and video work with it, again shooting in RAW. I also shoot with my iPhone 8 often when it makes sense. I had a Nikon D7000 and D7200 which were unfortunately stolen but now shoot with a D500. I have a small collection of lenses which includes a Nikon 35mm 1.8, Tamron 18-400 3.5-6.3, Sigma 17-50 2.8, Tokina 11-16 2.8, Rokinon 8mm fisheye and a Tamron 150-600 5.0-6.3. I mainly like to shoot landscapes and occasionally astrophotography and nature. I was highly inspired by the Southwest and American West in general and that's what I enjoy shooting the most. I'm also trying to get into bird photography but have barely scratched the surface there. Have done a few small jobs over the years - product photography for friends with South West jewelry business and a few drone photography jobs. Some of my other interests includes traveling (especially road trips), Islamic and Sufi related fields, spending time with my family, hiking, swimming and keeping up with technology. I'm looking forward to getting to know the club members!

I am a retired college professor and photography has been one of my hobbies for many years. I began in film and acquired my first SLR camera in order to photograph my children. I was employed at a community college that had a photography program, and I took all the photography classes I could. I loved the darkroom and special processing techniques, but am now fully in love with digital shooting and processing. I would consider myself an intermediate photographer and landscapes and travel photography are my favorites. I'm trying to branch out to taking more people oriented subjects. My other interests include travel, reading, art, and sewing. I've continued my passion for teaching and learning through volunteer activities like training to be a docent at the Albuquerque Museum, working at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, and reading tutoring. I moved to Albuquerque from Evansville, Indiana in 2018.

My photography interests lie mostly with landscapes and nature and especially in-the-field photography of wildflowers, birds, and butterflies. I increasingly find enjoyment in creating images through digital manipulation of tone, color, textures, and compositing. I retired from UNM as a geology professor, adult learning professor, and director of professional development programs.

I graduated from UNM with a masters degree in mechanical engineering in 1981. After graduating I moved to the Seattle area to participate in wilderness sports such as mountain climbing, white water kayaking and ski mountaineering. I spent the next 32 years living in the Seattle area working as an engineer, project manager and engineering manager. My wife and I retired and moved back to the Albuquerque area to be near her family in 2013. Other than photography I enjoy pottery, woodworking, gardening and hiking.
I have been a part time professional photographer since selling my first photos to a national magazine when I was a freshman in high school in 1971. Since then I have shot with SLRs and 4x5 view cameras. I sold at art fairs and galleries in the Puget Sound area for more than ten years in the 1990s. Most of my professional work was wilderness scenics. I stopped selling when digital got big and art fair prices crashed in the early 2000s. Since switching to digital in the early 2000s I now shoot pretty much everything except people. I have also taught digital photography classes off and on since 2008.
