About Mentorship

Mentorship classes are one of the many wonderful things offered by the Enchanted Lens Camera Club (ELCC) for members. Each month we present seminars which are free to all members. The Mentorship Classes are typically held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m., via Zoom.

Mentorship sessions are designed for everyone from beginner to experienced photographers. We cover all sorts of topics. While we do not provide in-depth instruction in various software products or camera techniques, it is our goal to widen your photographic experience. We give you exposure to topics, and let you decide if you would like to delve further into them on your own.

In the past our topics have included such things as:

  • Fundamentals of Photography
  • The World of Photoshop Compositing
  • Using textures in post processing
  • Creating Video Slide Shows
  • Tips and Tricks for Bird Photography
  • Skies and Water – Long Exposure Photography
  • Tips and Tricks in Photoshop
  • Control of Color
  • Infrared Photography

Focus on Post with Mentor Mike Stoy
Post Processing Techniques for Image Improvement

Welcome Mike Stoy! Mike will be presenting mentorship classes that focus on post processing techniques for image improvement.

Many photographers are good at composing and capturing digital photos but struggle to turn their RAW files into exhibition worthy images. These classes will be led by professional photographer and ELCC member Mike Stoy. Members are invited to submit their processed images along with the original raw files. Mike will critique each selected image and discuss in detail the post processing tools and steps that can be employed to improve it. He will demonstrate those steps live so you can follow the process used to achieve the end result. These classes will all be by Zoom.

You can view Mike’s work at and on his Flickr pages at

The Process for Image Submittal and Selection

  • Your processed Images should be in JPG format with a maximum file size of 15mb. Please label each image with the month (3 characters) and your last name. For example: Sep_Stoy.jpg.
  • Along with your completed edited version of the image you should also submit the original RAW file. Please label each RAW and unedited version of the image with the month (3 characters) and your last name followed by -ORG. For example: Sep_Stoy-ORG.
  • Images for review must be submitted by the second Thursday each month (one week after the speakers meeting). Limit: 1 image per month.
  • Mike will pre-screen all of the submitted images each month and choose about half a dozen for review. The selected images will be critiqued and Mike will demonstrate the post processing tools and steps that he would use to improve each one. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.
  • The images selected will be those that Mike feels can benefit most from post processing.
  • If more images are submitted then can be reviewed in a given month, those that aren’t selected may be re-submitted the following month. Images that are re-submitted will be given the highest priority.
  • Mike will try to ensure that all members are given the opportunity to have their images reviewed. If a member has an image chosen for review one month they may submit an image the following month but it will not be selected until after images from all other members who did not have their images reviewed the prior month are critiqued.
