Speaker: Deidre Kann

Topic: Atmospheric Optics

Deirdre Kann was born and raised in northern Illinois, although the tornado that damaged her family home as a youngster did not peak a curiosity in the weather.  Interested in math, science and the great outdoors, Deirdre earned a BS in mathematics and was introduced to the study of climate while finishing a minor in Geography.  She obtained a PhD in atmospheric sciences from Purdue University, then worked for various agencies within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for 30 years, including 23 years as the Science and Operations Officer at the Albuquerque office of the National Weather Service. She retired in 2016 remaining in New Mexico - the land of enchanted skies.
