Adventure Travel Group

The Group Committee scouts, develops and then manages two trips each Club Year.  Trips include Member-responsible travel to each site as well as Member-paid accommodation, meals and possibly local Guide and Entrance fees that may be arranged by the ATG.  The Group also has its own Flicker page.  ELCC- Adventure Trips | Flickr.  Member images from ATG trips are included.

In the 2025-2026 Calendar Year, the ATG has completed two highly successful trips:

(1) The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TSRR) trip included chasing the train as it steamed south from Antonito, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico.  Fifteen Club Members, stayed overnight in Alamosa, Colorado, and attended a participating member briefing and orientation dinner at the Friar’s Fork restaurant.  The next day, we photographed the train and the station in Antonito and then drove to three places along National Forest and local State Roads to track crossings where we could take images of the approaching and passing train in the fall foliage.  Some Club Members also added their own days to this trip while travelling to Alamosa.

(2) We went to the amazing Monument Valley in the Navajo Nation in Arizona and Utah.  This successful trip was taken by 38 Club Members and guests and included a well-attended orientation dinner at the Goulding’s Hotel Stagecoach Restaurant and five ATG arranged Navajo guided blue- and golden hour photo tours over two days.  Members also arrived days early or stayed days later so as to make additional photo trips in the area.  Most members stayed at the View Hotel or Goulding’s Lodge.
