October 17th @ 7 PM (Zoom Meeting)
Judge: Nick Rapaz
Assigned Topic: Environmental Portraits
Environmental portraiture is the art of making an image of a person, or group, in their natural environment. A portrait alone tells a story. Environmental portraits use elements of the subject’s environment to add information and appeal to the story. This can be as simple as a beekeeper standing alongside her hives, or a ranch hand photographed in the open shade of the stables. The environmental element doesn’t have to be literal. A poet may find his natural environment to be a library. Maybe it’s the home a person grew up in. How you include the environment in your images is completely up to you.
